About the medical assistant programs

Students may choose between the associate degree and diploma programs:

  • Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assistant. This two-year program gives students specialized medical knowledge and skills needed to work in ambulatory care environments. It also prepares them to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam, offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants, and the limited scope of practice exam offered by the American Registry of Radiographic Technicians (ARRT).
  • Medical Assistant Diploma. The diploma program includes much of the same coursework as the associate degree program, with the exception of general education coursework. Full-time students can finish the program in a short amount of time (15 months for full-time students) and quickly enter the workforce.

Get real experience through clinical training

Students in our medical assistant programs complete many hours of clinical training in real work settings. This invaluable experience gives students the opportunity to apply skills they have learned throughout the program in real-life situations. GU/MSB-Plymouth will help arrange clinical training.
